Thanks for the update on click-2-call working

Can you explain the differences to me of your vdialer add-in and the Vonage click-2call integration with Outlook?

I assume there are some specific advantages or UI differences, but wanted your take on it.

I assume you are referring to this one:

The main difference (besides UI) is that the Vonage application (C2C) does not work with Outlook 2007 and newer, while VDialer only works with Outlook 2007 and newer. C2C is no longer under active development either, so don't expect any updates.

Technically they both initiate calls in the same way (and thus have the same limitations, e.g no international calls). Note that I plan to add a feature where you can elect to continue using the C2C web service or use the Vonage Contact Center services to initiate your calls (I have already released a patch that does this as a workaround for the issues with C2C in December/January). This should make the app more robust and allow you to make international calls.

Some other key differences are:

  • VDialer has more configuration options
  • C2C is a tray app - VDialer is an Outlook add-in only
  • VDialer can make journal entries automatically (configurable)
  • VDialer is integrated into menus/ribbon while C2C uses toolbar button
  • VDialer is open source, C2C is not

I haven't had much feedback, so right now I'm implementing features I would like to see. If there are features you would like to have added or enhanced, feel free to add it as an issue. Any feedback - good or bad - is appreciated.
